There are three different things that play a key part in being a good player position, patience and power. The most important decision you can make in this game is whether or not to play a starting hand. Most people lose most of their money by playing to many hands. If you play every hand you get, chances are that you are going to end up losing your money quickly. You should always be aware of how important your position to the dealer is; this is what will usually tell you how to bet and what to bet on. If you are in an early position you should really have a rock solid hand if you are going to bet on it. The players that are to the left of the dealer in the first three positions are known as being in early position, the next three players are in middle positions and all of the other players are in late positions. If you are in an early position you should always raise with A-A, K-K, and A-K suited, call if you have A-K, A-Q suited, K-Q suited, Q-Q, J-J or T-T. If you are in this position and you have anything else fold. Now if you are in the middle position you should mostly call bets if you have 9-9, 8-8, A-J suited, A-T suited, Q-J suited A-Q, and K-Q. If you happen to be playing in late position you have a lot more choices of what to bet on. One reason for this is because you get to find out what the other players do with their hands. Deciding whether you are going to stay in the game after you see what the flop brings to the table is the second biggest decision in the game, it can also be one of the most costly. You shouldn’t fall into the trap of thinking that since you already have money invested in the game that you should stay in. If you don’t have the right cards, fold its not worth wasting more money. The flop absolutely defines your hand, if you don’t get the cards that you are looking for then you probably aren’t going to get your cards from the remaining cards to be dealt. Your ability to read the players and the board is one of the most important things you can master. It is easy to determine what the highest available hand might be because of the five community cards. Since you are able to see them and so is everybody else people can almost certainly be able to figure out the highest cards on the table if you know what you are looking for then you will have the advantage over some of the other players at the table.
