Seven Card Stud Rules

So you have decided to play Seven Card Stud online? You should first know what the rules of the game are so that you know what you are doing. The most important thing that you should know when you are entering a game is what the betting limits are. The low online stakes are usually around two to four dollars and the higher limits can be up to twenty dollars. The Buy in and your Bankroll are also very important to the game of Seven-Card Stud. The buy in for a typical game is usually ten times the low limit, but you should probably not play with the minimum money allowed, it won’t last long this is why your bankroll is so important.

First of all the “Ante” in this game is mandatory, and keep in mind that it changes depending on what the limits are. Low game usually require a 10% ante and high games are usually a 25% ante. There are some variations of this but it is usually about 10%. Now that this is out of the way, the dealer deals clockwise around the table. There is one card dealt at a time to each player until they all have two pocket cards (which are face down) and one up card (the ‘door’ card). The dealer then dictates which player will bet first according to the lowest door card. If there is a tie for whom has the lowest door card the dealer uses suits for a tiebreaker spades win over hearts and diamonds win over clubs.

Now that the first person who bets has been decided the game begins. The player who holds the lowest door card must open the bet with an amount that is equal to twice the ante. If the person who is supposed to bet first decides that he doesn’t want to bet he is forced to fold and betting privilege is passed onto the next player on their left. If the player that is next (clockwise) wants to call the bet that is made they have to do so in intervals of the low minimum bet. The next card is then laid out which is called Fourth Street; this card is dealt face up. The person who bets on this round first is the person with the highest hand. With the Fifth and Sixth Street each player gets a card dealt face up to them and the highest hand opens betting once again. Finally the last card Seventh Street is dealt face down and all bets and raises are done at the high limit.

Now it is time for the ‘Showdown’ which means that all bets and raises are done and players now show their cards to decide who wins. The opener reveals what his pocket cards are any players that wishes to compete can reveal their hands as well or fold. In online games the casino will automatically designate the winner and the pot will be given to him. One thing that you should also remember is that you as a player have a right to ask to see any final hand that has been folded.
