Canadian Tournament

Canada is the next destination for many of poker’s biggest names. Fresh off from the NBC Heads-Up Poker Championship in Vegas' Caesars Palace, pros like Huckleberry Seed and Antonio “The Magician" Esfandiari have headed to the 2006 Canadian Open Poker Championship, which kicked off Wednesday night at the Stampede Casino in Calgary. Seed has just made poker headlines for his final four spot in the Heads-Up Poker Championship. The Canadian poker event will give him the chance to try his hand once more at heads-up play, the featured format of the Canadian championship event. In addition to Seed and Esfandiari, Brad Booth, one of Canada's up-and-coming poker players, will also try his hand at the championship. The 2006 Canadian Open Poker Championship runs through March 12.

Woman Arrested

On the island of Saipan, which has recently made its laws regarding gaming more lenient in order to gain funds from operations, a pregnant woman was arrested earlier this week after allegedly leaving her minor children home alone in order to play poker. This is not the first time the woman has been collared for neglect- less than a year ago, Lincy C Santos was convicted and sentenced for neglecting her children to go play poker.
The current arrest reportedly marks her fourth such apprehension on similar charges. Superior Court Associate Judge Ramona Villagomez Manglona, who presided over yesterday's bail hearing, decided against instituting a bail in light of Santos' advanced stage of pregnancy. He also told Santos to stay out of poker rooms.
Santos allegedly left her three children alone at home while she went to play poker in a local arcade. Neighbors claimed that they noticed that Santos had been absent for five hours. Soon afterwards, police found her playing poker in the city of San Jose.
