Online poker room Party Poker has announced its team up with online
dating agency Lavalife to bring the social game to a whole new level on
the internet. Now, you can play poker on partypoker, you can also find a
date!
The two agencies are teaming up to present a free eleven week long No
Limit Texas Hold”Em tournament series that will offer single poker
players the chance to meet new people while they play the game online.
After players register, they are given a date where they can compete in
the tournament for prizes and spend time chatting with potential dates.
The tournament is complete with a the slogan “Play on a Thursday. Have a
Date on Saturday.”
The online tournaments will begin on Thursday, March 23 at 9:30pm and
wil run at the same time every Thursday for eleven weeks. Players who
finish in the top twenty of a Thursday night qualifying round will be
invited to participate in the final tournament, which will take place on
June 9th.
The 220-player final tournament offers players a chance to win $25,000
worth of prizes, including an all expenses paid vacation for two to the
Club Med Turkoise in the Turks & Caicos Islands, a 50-inch plasma screen
TV, an X-BOX 360, iPODs, and gift certificates to various leading online
vendors.
Partypoker spokesperson Warren Lush said "We have already experienced
plenty of interest in this with hundreds of players signing up for the
tournament well before the first qualifier. It is not necessary that a
participant must be single, although the idea is targeted at singles.
Whoever wins will receive a vacation for two to take whoever they want."
Initiative for the idea was apparently found in the romance between tow
Partypoker members. 27 year olds Gary Suffir and Jackie Johnson, an
attorney and an artist, met at a Partypoker Omaha table and began to
date, and then got married at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas. Partypoker
officials immediately realized a whole new marketing potential.
