Palm Springs could stand to improve poker image
Avid poker players could certainly use some improvements in the level of
game being offered around Palm Springs. There are five poker rooms
within twenty miles of the town, and all have friendly staff and
comfortable spaces and do their best to please their players. However,
there are certainly some aspects that need to be changed if they want to
continue attracting good players and maybe even take the next step in
recognition.
At the Fantasy Springs poker room, there is a great system of frequent
player points. It is a very generous system of play, and it should be
used throughout the rooms in the area.
The Spotlight 20 is original in that it offers all players self-serve
coffee, soft drinks, and snacks. Nothing goes with poker like snacking,
and the room is really onto something that should be emulated in the
other four poker rooms. All of the rooms should offer sit and go
tournaments that would allow players who prefer tournament play to get
the variation of their choice around the clock.
At the Spa and Agua Caliente, the bad beat jackpots are much easier to
hit than at the other clubs. These two rooms offer Aces-full-of-anything
beat four of a kind, while others offer only an aces-full-of-tens
formula. The first formula should be repeated among the other three
poker rooms.
Morongo needs to implement a better system than the dealer shouting when
an empty seat is available, when a server or more chips are needed, or
if a floor person is required. It’s a big concentration breaker.
It would be nice to se the poker rooms team up and offer a Coachella
Valley Poker League. Nothing like playing the people you see night after
night in tournaments for bragging rights! Also, a League would build a
good loyalty and camaraderie among Valley players. A dealer gratuity
needs to be included in tournament entry fees. Dealers get stiffed too
often, and inclusion would save players the hassle of trying to
calculate the appropriate tip.
