"I’m All In" tourney raising money to fight cancer
Poker and charities will be teaming up on March 15 for the “I’m All In”
poker tournament, which will benefit the fight against cancer. The
tournament is to be held at Speakeasy on Siesta Key, and all proceeds
from the Texas Hold’Em style tournament will go to the Leukemia and
Lymphoma Society. Some of the prizes for the tournament include casino
vacations.
The tournament is the brainchild of Ceiliah Eppner and Melissa Barton,
who are fundraisers within the cancer society’s “Team in Training”
program. Epner says that the two women wanted to do more than just check
people in at events once they got involved with the Leukemia and
Lymphoma Society, and so the idea of the “I’m All In: tournament was
born.
Team in Training guides fundraising participants in the steps of
fund-raising for the cancer society, and also trains them for endurance
races. Each participant sets a fundraising goal, and during the training
period train for specific endurance events that the society sends them
to once they reach their goals.
Epner is shooting for the Rock and Roll Marathon in San Diego, and needs
to raise $3,900 to do so. She has already tapped into resources from
family and friends. Epner joined the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society after
her father contracted sinus cancer and was able to fight the disease
with the help of the society.
The Speakeasy is donating both the venue and the food for tournament
players, in addition to drink specials. The Kings and Queens poker
company will be donating the game materials, including cards and chips.
First prize in the tournament well be a trip to Las Vegas, and other
casino vacations are going to be made available through raffles. The
buy-in is $20 online before the event, or $25 at the door. The
organizers are expecting between 40 and 60 entrants.
