United Kingdom Digital to Launch New
Channel
Poker fans in the United Kingdom often face a bewildering and sometimes
quality deficient array of offerings when they subscribe to the Sky and
Telewest digital platforms. UK company Flextech recently aired a special
on buy-in channel Challenge TV, which focused on a time slot at 10 pm
each night with an emphasis on poker, casino and gaming broadcasts under
the name “Players”. Viewers tuning in to the time slot have been able to
watch reruns of World Series of Poke and World Poker Tour Main Events
and a host of celebrity offerings, as well as casino games.
The results appear to have pleased Flextech, who are launching a
separate channel called “Player”, which will broadcast “action,
adventure, fighting, poker, football and drive-time”. The channel is
slated to launch in March, with a mix of testosterone based programming.
Included in the schedule is a stream of gaming, motor racing, and poker,
such as highlights from the European Poker Tour.
While waiting for the new channel to launch, poker fans can still catch
Challenge’s “Player” from 10pm every evening. Poker is represented at
midnights for the next few nights with the “Poker Royale: Comedians vs
Pros Series”. The United States based programme’s humour may come more
from the comedian’s style of play rather than their spoken words for the
United Kingdom poker fan, as it is best watched without taking the
strategies too seriously.
