British Student Poker Tour set to launch
University students and poker are a solid natural match. In Britain,
online poker site Poker Room is seeking to appeal to the demographic of
students over the age of eighteen by launching the first nationwide
United Kingdom Student Poker Tour. The Tour comes as a result of Poker
Room overtures to universities across Britain, and the area is target
specific and competitive.
Poker Room will be trying to find the best student Texas Hold’Em player
in the country’s biggest university towns, which include Liverpool,
(where the tour kicked off on February 20th), Manchester, Leeds,
Nottingham, Sheffield, Birmingham, Leicester, and of course London. The
Tour will come to its completion in Bristol on the third of March.
Thousands of students are expected to turn out for the nationwide event.
The first round will be played at whatever the local student hangout hot
spot is, picking up expert tips from Pokerroom.com along the way. The
online tournament will take place day after the live event. The winning
student in each university will proceed to the final. After the final
match, the top ten online poker players will meet at a final table on
PokerRoom.com on March 11, and go head to head for the first prize, a
brand new GBP 15,000 sports car.
PokerRooms.com’s chief executive Patrick Selin says, “With the launch of
the Student Poker Tour, we are taking the exciting world of poker
directly to a growing audience and developing a relationship with a
previously untapped market. We aim to show students that anyone can be a
great Texas Hold’Em player given the right tools and know-how.” No doubt
the winner of the sports car, not to mention the thousands of players
expected to sign up for the tournament, will agree.
